Homecoming
In January of 2019, Floetic Fridays hosted a ‘Homecoming’ for Clark and the greater Worcester community. Traditionally, homecomings honor an organization and its members but we hope to counter this with a questioning of the term home itself. Centered around this theme, this one showcased a student-produced monologue segment entitled, “Homes Within & Beyond”, as well as visual art, and an open mic portion.

With our community-written monologue series, Floetic organizers cultivated an open and honest space where we gathered various interpretations of home. Is it a place, a feeling, a community, a memory? How is our sense of home always changing and adapting? Furthermore, this event explored how our conceptions of home have shaped our identities. Being that this was our first show of the new 2019 academic year, we hoped to be vulnerable about how Clark can create a sense of community and serve as a home for us--in any capacity. In this intimate celebration of ourselves, we invited Clark students and Worcester community members to reconsider our conventional notions of home. When we redefine and magnify our understanding of home, we can reimagine the possibilities of our own power. No interpretation of home is invalid or less than. All experiences of home are valuable and meaningful.
